Just an update on the progress of the Bank Building. Elk County Preservation Society owns this beautiful building and has plans to restore. It is on the State and National Register of Historic Places. In February of this year we were awarded the Heritage Trust Fund Grand from the Kansas State Historical Society. That money will stabilize the South wall that is being held up by pipes. The wall will be retucked. Most recently, the Elk County Community Foundation was blessed with an opportunity from the Patterson Family Trust to host a matching funds event. The Patterson Family matched dollar for dollar up to $70,000. Our County raised more than the $70,000. Patterson Family will match up to the $70,000 which gives the community $140,000+ to go toward improvements in the communities in our County. Of this money $20,000+ will be matched and was eartagged for the Bank Building restoration. The roof has some repairs needed and that will most likely be the next project after stabilizing the south wall. We acquired this building in 2019 and have been having fundraisers, applying for grants, etc. The Heritage Trust Fund Grant and the Foundation monies have given us a new spark that things can move forward. ...
