Worth Saving

The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation's historic places worth of preservation. Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America's historic and archeological resources. Inclusion on the National Register allows the Elk County Preservation Society to receive help obtaining preservation benefits and incentives.

WE HAVE EXCITING NEWS!!! We were awarded the Heritage Trust Fund Grant from the Kansas State Historical Society in the amount of $90,000. We are so excited to get things going on the renovation of the Howard National Bank Building. This money will stabilize the South Wall and all the stone on that will be retucked. The pipes will go away and the building will be secure. We continue to pursue Grant opportunities and work toward restoring this building to it's original beauty. Stay tuned for more updates as things progress! ... See MoreSee Less
